Dr. Justin D. Brown

Dr. Brown has been involved in 4-H since he was 8 years old.  He participated in livestock projects and showed at county fairs for years, sparking his interest in becoming a vet.  He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.  After practicing in Danville for several years, he moved his growing family to the Peoria area and started Brown Animal Hospital in 2005.  He continually works to grow the practice.  His professional interests include both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.  His most interesting clinical experience involved performing oral surgery on a full grown Bengal tiger!  His personal interests include outdoor activities such as fishing and archery.

You Should Know:

Dr. Brown is married with 3 lovely girls and one lonely boy at home.  His family lives with and alongside 4 dogs (Lucy, Maya, Bear, & Otis), 2 cats (Oliver & Sarafina), 4 rabbits, 2 pigs, 8 ducks, 14 chickens, and 2 turkeys!

Dr. Barbara Shelton

Dr. Shelton is one of 6 veterinarians her family has produced within the last 3 generations.  Graduating with her degree from Kansas State University, she then practiced in Texas for 27 years.  She recently returned home to the Peoria area.  Her special interests include reproductive medicine as well as both pediatric and geriatric care for animals.  She has bred and shown Standard Poodles, Miniature Long Haired Dachshunds, and American Short Haired Cats.  Her personal interests are awe inspiring! On a recent 2014 vacation she zip lined and rode in a glider plane in Utah.  We are thrilled to add her expertise here at both the Peoria and Elmwood locations.

You Should Know:

Dr. Shelton is currently sharing room and board with a lab mix named Chico, a long haired Dachshund named Magic and her American cats named Showy, Rolex, Starfire, Snuggles, and Lightening. 

Dr. Stephanie Gingras

Dr. Gingras received her degree from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.  After practicing in the Quad Cities area, she moved here to practice in Peoria.  She is specially trained in the use of Cold Level Laser Therapy and has helped us add this service at our clinics.  She and her husband recently added a beautiful baby boy to their family.  We are happy to welcome her to our Peoria and Elmwood location.

Dr. Kenny Davis

Dr. Davis is something of a local legend in mid-central Illinois.  He practiced both large and small animal medicine for over 22 years before moving out of the area and taking a position with the USDA.  He will be seeing clients for Brown Animal Hospital in both our Peoria and Elmwood locations.

Melissa Hammond, Practice Manager

Melissa has worked directly with animals for years.  She took over as Practice Manager here in 2013 and concentrates her energy on constantly improving customer satisfaction, as well as clinic efficiency.  Melissa is married with 2 active sons.  She enjoys reading and following Cardinals baseball.

You Should Know:

Melissa is cared for by 3 dogs named Gunner, Max, and Hobbs, a cat named Sheldon, and Jellybean- the hamster.

Sara, Front Desk Lead

Sara has worked at Brown Animal Hospital since 2013.  She has been a wonderful addition to our clinic family.  She loves to greet all the pets that come through our door with hugs and kisses.  She and her husband recently added a beautiful baby boy to their family.

You Should Know:

Sara and family share their home with Buster the Beagle, Rico the Chihuahua, Riley the Calico Cat, and Wilson the Orange Cat.

Glory, Veterinary Assistant

Glory is a certified CNA.  She has worked with animals in some capacity since 2007.  She enjoys all outdoor activities including fishing and mushroom hunting.  She has 3 beautiful children- 2 girls and a boy.

You Should Know:

Glory and her family host a cat named Star, African cichlid fish, and 2 crested geckos named Akasha and Lestat.

Sarah, Veterinary Assistant

Sarah is a Brimfield native. She has worked in both our Elmwood and Peoria locations.  She will be entering the University of Illinois Veterinary Medicine program in the Fall of 2017 and we couldn't be more proud!

You should know:

Sarah is a graduate of Eureka College with a degree in Biology. 

Krista, Groomer

Krista has years of experience working with animals.  She trained to groom at Petsmart and is wonderful with the pets.  Her patience and kindness with her furry clients shows in her results!

Brittney, Veterinary Assistant and Kennels

Brittney loves working with animals and is excited to learn new skills in this field.  She has worked in the grooming field and enjoys riding horses and spending time with her husband and son.

Brittney and her husband live with a pug/lab mix named Dixie and a Siamese mix kitty named Roxy. 

Cheryl, Kennel and Veterinary Assistant

Cheryl has years of experience working with animals.  In addition to working with us, she also spends her time volunteering at SAMS animal shelter!  You can always find her giving our furry friends extra attention.

Cheryl shares her home with 3 cats- Jackson, Black Walnut and Shiegra.
